German 1924 G 5 rentenpfennig die fault

3 posts
If we have any German coin experts, can you tell me if there is a known die fault issue with this coin?  I have one with a very obvious fault ridge vertically through the coin on the obverse side (the side with the wheat) from above the G mintmark down through the 9 in the date to the rim.  Most obvious as a tail extending down from the G mark.  Definitely not a scratch, there is no corresponding furrow beside the ridge.  I don't think my camera will get that close a picture, but I'll try it.

Thanks

If you could post a pic, that would be excellent.  I've not seen every variation of these coins, but this has to be my favorite coin designs of all time.  If it is a true error, I think you should get it inspected by NGC -- even if not NGC, it's worth trying to get some sort of third-party grading, as the coin could be worth a up to $150.00 or so.  More reasonably, I think your error may be something like this, which would perhaps increase the value by 25-50%:

I don't see any mention in Krause, online, or in the Grosser Deutscher Muenzkatalog, which sometimes makes mention of prominent errors.  Once you have a picture I may be able to tell you more.
If you look very close you can see the fault extends from rim to rim from above the "G" mintmark to below the "9" in the date.

Thanks for your help,
