Check this out, found a Wheat Steel Penny and a 62 silver dime at Coinstar. Can you believe it?

When you said 62 silver dime I thought you meant 62 x silver dimes
I can't believe someone left half dollars in there.
I got a silver dime two weeks in a row at a Coinstar out of town. Never get anything at my local coin star. Too bad I don't live near that one.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Hi David and everyone. Sorry have not been on much lately. Have a few issues going on. But I can see people leaving 50 cent coins. They stop making for circulation I think 2005. And not really in circulation for 30 years, so there are a lot of people who have not used or seen them. They are becoming much like the US 2 dollar bill and the large Ike dollar. Not a lot of people used or know about them.
It is, what it is, or is it.
I have found a few silver quarters at the local Walmart Coinstar.
For us uninitiated lot from across the pond, can you please explain the Coinstar process, as I have no idea how it works.
We can go to our local supermarket and put in all of our loose coinage, and we get a receipt for that amount less 10%, which we can then use to pay for items purchased. Nowhere in the UK seems to give coins for coins, so very intrigued by this process of yours

That is correct, we get the coins that the machine rejects because it is the wrong weight, i.e, silver.
Dellrugby, how often do you check the coin star, is this a daily thing? Do you get on your hands and knees like curlian, and look under it?

coinman, I'm sure you machine has a rejection trey for anything that the machine can't count like tokens and random metal objects. Out machines reject all foreign coins and silver coins. If you check the reject trey you might get lucky and find something. I've looked for years and mostly found nothing. This year I have found more!

I check the Coinstar on every trip to Walmart. If it's US money or foreign coins with animals on them, Abby gets them. She has no problems getting on her hands and knees and getting the ones under the machine too. As shopping with my dear wifey typically involves multiple stores we very rarely come home empty handed. Our last trip to the super Walmart way out on the interstate netted us over $3 in nickels just sitting in the reject tray.

Silver coins have all but disappeared now. This year so far I've found a 1950's Roosevelt dime (actually Abby found it and I bought it off her for $1) and my wife has brought home a couple of quarters from work, probably more than the whole of 2016 yielded. No more than 5 years ago I could pretty much count on several silver coins a week, from my own rooting around in the reject trays and my dear lady wife developing a good eye at picking them out of the weekly takings from our city's parking meters.

We still get plenty of foreign coins, mostly Canadian from visiting snowbirds, Caribbean and lots of rejected US coins. And happily for me, despite a prominent red sign saying that parking meters only accept 5, 10 and 25c coins, people still insist on jamming SBA and Presidential dollars into the slot.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Yes, the machine at our local supermarket does reject the oddities, but as I have shopping, I very rarely even go with my wife, so would never be in a position to find any.
As for going every few days? Could not think of anything worse.
As for find silver? No chance, since silver was not made after 1946, and due to decimalisation, never going to find any.
I wish all of you who spend time doing this coin hunting the very best of luck
