At my bank today they told me the mint would stop production of the Presidential Dollar series, because no one wants the coins. Has anyone else heard this?
YES I HEARD THIS THE LAST WEEK TOO BUT I HEARD NOT A TOTAL STOPPAGE JUST LIMITED TO COLLECTORS ITEMS WHICH I FIGUERED THEY WOULD DO HALF WAY THROUGH ANYWAY JUST LIKE THE SACAGAWEAS AND QUARTERS SOON ALL CHANGE WILL BE CONSIDERED COLLECTORS LUCKY ME
Many collectors need them and Bank says that are in excess ??
Collectors may need them but whats stopped them from getting them already?
In this economic climate it makes sence to scrap whatevers the most expencive to make the notes or the coin. I was actualy quite suprised to hear that in the US you have both coin and notes of the same value it just seems so ineffecient frankly i expected better of the yanks.

"In what could end up being an about-face in government policy, new legislation was introduced in the United States Senate on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 seeking to replace paper dollar bills with $1 coins".
As a Canadaian who saw the $1 coin replace the $1 note 25 years ago, I think it would be a super idea for our neighour to the south to do the same.
It is very interesting that U.S. collectors claim they cannot get the president dollars to add to their collections. I am from Canada and I visit the United States for a week or two each year. Of course, I visit U.S. banks and purchase mint rolls of coins including the president dollars. My intention was to sell these BU coins at coin shows and on Ebay to Canadians who were collecting U.S. coins. In the case of the president dollars, I have sold over 500 of these coins over the past couple years with about 60% of them going back to collectors in the United States.

I get plenty. My wife works for the local city hall and one of her duties is to tally the takings from the parking meters. People try to use the $1 coins despite clear instruction to use 5, 10 & 25 cents only. They just fall into the box but don't register. They are almost always in good condition. I wish the coin slot was a little bigger so it could accept half dollars.
ATB quarters now.. that's a different story. Scarcer than honest politicians. Perhaps there are regional distribution patterns, I have plenty of the Gettysburg quarters but little else.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
Make Numismatics Great Again!
SBA dollars arent that common around my little town either but that might be a good place to go seeing as i probably wont be able to finish pres. dollars now! ...So maybe we should start collecting U.S. paper dollars if there going to disappear
