PCGS Grading

4 posts
Hi all,

I inquired re getting some coins rated and I was quoted €25 for each coin.  I live in Greece and was told the coins will be sent to France and be returned within a month.  The coins I want to rate are gold but, still, it seems like a lot of money.

Is this the going rate?  Any alternatives?

Also, where can I get survival estimates for US gold coins?

thx

I think that either NGC or PCGS, possibly both offer several free submissions with membership which works out much cheaper. Also if you are on good terms with a large collector or dealer you could ask them to submit the coins on your behalf. They only pay around $5 each so even allowing for paying the submitter a small fee you will still save a lot.

That's how it works in the US and I see no reason why it would be different over there.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Thanks for the input, I'll look into those options.

Thank you for your information on the topic of having coins graded. I live in South Africa, and have just inherited two seperate coin collections that I'm now combining. While I know that many of them are in very good condition for their age, ranging from very fine to almost uncirculated, with the rate of exchange ZAR to USD, I've been very intimidated by the cost of sending these for certification, as I'm a novice, and not too sure on how to sort out the good from the bad. In the interim. I'm trying to grade them myself and I'm capturing them (slowly) onto the Numista facility. Does anyone know of a dealer in SA who can help with grading?
