Something about it...the details just look too new. Also, some of the writing looks "broader" or "fatter" than you'd expect. It may still be silver, but it could be a modern re-strike. After all, I wouldn't be surprised if some consortium of folks in Sudan is failing to put "Copy" on their re-strikes.
I mean, let's face it -- there's only one reason someone would make a copy in actual silver, and that is if the coin's numismatic value is outstandingly higher than its metal value. Here you have an unblemished silver coin with a mint production of 2...and it is made of silver. Has all the hallmarks of being a contemporary or modern counterfeit.
Now, if you really want to be sure, pay your 15$ and send it in to NGC to have it graded.
I side with tewcd on this. No offense Daniel; but if you look at your coin it just looks too good. As tewcd says get it checked out and if it is the real thing then you can have a party and invite us all over. It'd be an amazing thing to find out.
Now, the coin has a few circulation marks; you can see it on the surface and on the edge of the obverse. There's also tarnishing on the reverse, which backs up the case of the coin being real.
But, looking at the inscriptions, the writing looks too bold as tewcd mentioned and it's not straight. If you look closely, it's a little wavy, unlike the other Piastre coins, which have straight and definite writing.

I saw exactly the same coins (3 units) last week at the Alexandria "souk" in Egypt.
Knowing that this coin was made as proofs to be submitted to Sultan Fouad but were not issued as by that time he became King of Egypt, I did not buy it.
One of these 2 coins was displayed in the mint House Museum at Abassia.
It seems that there is a little bit silver in these fakes but certainly not 0.8330 and the weight seems far from 28.00g.
But as the original is not purchasable, you can knowingly keep it in your collection as a fake.

So its a real...contemporary (or close) counterfeit? That's what that website seems to mean to me. Maybe even struck from the same die used for the real coins?

Its real silver and a real coin, no fake strike, just unknown ... But hey getting a 150 dollar profit isn't too bad.
:D

Quote: bam777Either way...I think it is a nice thing to have got hold of if it is silver... Well done for answering your own question.
What ever it is, it's silver so the bullion has exceeded the amount I payed for it. But honestly this website was the first I found, people are buying these like crazy. (18 bids on eBay)

The coins shown by "coinsnotes2011" is obviously a fake and it is a scam to sell it 150 USD!
Last week in Egypt, I refused to pay 20 € for it....
Please find here below a pic of one of the 2 original coins (KM#328):
And you can also check that the fake has no "H"; all the coins: 2 piastres, 5 piastres, 10 piastres and the famous 20 piastres dated 1920 are "1920 H" (and minted in London).
We have to create KM#328 in Numista and why not the KM#328fake...?

Hey em... I'm 16 year old who collects coins, I'm asking if it's real... Not a marketing scam, don't assume before you have evidence. If those coins sold are fake... Atleast I got the silver content. I never would sell the coin.
