What do you think of transit tokens?

Hey Numista. I wanted to ask what the community here thinks of transit tokens. I have always thought they were pretty cool but not that easy to come by without buying them individually. Do many people collect them and are they really worth anything? I have really only seen them go for a $1 or $2.

Thanks everyone.
What I collect: US, 3rd Reich Germany, Philippines, Ancients, Vatican City, North Korea.
I have swapped most of my Transit tokens for coins. Most were pre-1980 bridge and transit tokens from Canada and the U.S.A.

I have a colonial ferry token that is one of my favourites, est. mid-1840's (sorry for the bad photo)....

The Halifax to Dartmouth ferry has been in continuous service from 1753 until today.

As a side note, I understand that the Toronto Transit Commission is ending their token program because of counterfeits.

I have a few. Some turned up in grab bags and bulk lots. Others were left behind on sorting machines. DC, Virginia, Connecticut, Miami FL... a cool local twist for American collectors.

Interesting that Toronto was still using tokens at all. Every system I've used had phased them out fifteen years ago.

Colnect has a category for paper and plastic fare cards, but their token catalog is less comprehensive than ours.
