Cairo Tramway tokens : what are the face values ? [solved]

5 posts
Hi, I am a little confused regarding these two tokens... I know these are Cairo Tramway tokens. I have two different tokens, one like this : https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces105725.html and the other one has only one bar. Regarding the first one, how can it have a face value of 1 piaster when there are 2 bars ? Is it a mistake, or it has nothing to do with the face value ? And if it's really 1 piaster, then what is the face value of the one with only one bar ?

Thank you !

As I know, its " 1 way" and "2 ways"

How would that work if it's one way vs. return? If you keep your token, you can always claim it's your first ride, and reuse it all the time. If anything, it's more likely to be related to the number of zones you're crossing, if Cairo uses the zone system as many large cities do.

I have just sent additions to the coin sheet. On the obverse النقول العام بالقاهرة means Cairo Public Transport.

Sure related of zone...like single and double fare for bus tokens.
Ok thanks ! I knew it didn't make sense to be denominated in piasters, but then again I have a plastic tramway token from Great-Britain that has the value 1 D. on it. I'll add the other one as it does not seem to be here.
