Looking for advice about finding appropriate swap partners

7 posts
Hi NumisFriends!

I'm relatively new here on Numista. I've made a few successful swaps already, but more often than not my offers get turned down. I think it's mostly because I'm trying to swap with partners that have more advanced collections (and therefore more interesting coins to choose from) and so my tiny pot of coins I want to swap from is too small for them to select coins that interest them.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for finding more appropriate swap partners?

Thanks for any tips! :O

A lot of people on here love commemorative coins and as I see you're in the USA you could probably put some of the circulating commemoratives on your swaplist from here and you may have a chance to swap with some people overseas.

That's a great idea! I pick through my laundry quarters every week, it would be simple enough to pull out some nicer State and National Parks quarters, or any bicentennial quarters I come across.

If you go to the Exchanges tab and click on Start a Swap, you can then click on the column that says "Coins that may interest him/her" which should then give you a list of members who are interested in what's on your list.

I always run into similar problems: either people have more advanced collections (so they don't need the coins that I can offer) or I don't need what they can offer. (Sometimes I need the coins they offer but it is simpler (and cheaper) for me to buy such coins locally). So I can't understand how other users find so many swap partners.

...you just swap for fun. I usually ask for a nice postcard from that geographical area.
Usually if I really need something, it's easier to buy it locally, as you've said.

I'll be lurking on this thread and reading the advice given, since I plan to start swapping the doubles in my type collection once I've settled down more permanently (probably when I start Uni). :wiz:
