10 Markkaa 2017

This is an interesting token I want to talk about. I will soon make a numista page for it.

Markka was the currency of Finland 1860-2002. Paavo Väyrynen, 72 yrs old, ex MEP and a senior politician, been in politics for 50 years, wants the Markka back. And the "markka nostalgia" is getting stronger.

Paavo's 10 markkaa coin can be bought with 10€. I own one. It can be used in his shops. The coin is a thick but small coin. Made from either copper or bronze. More tomorrow.
And here something about paavo:

Paavo is a interesting politician. He was the honorary chairman of the keskusta (center party) but made his own party, the citizen party. Then there was a power struggle that Paavo lost, and left the party. the citizen party was forgotten. He left the centre party too this year to make his second own party, the "Seven star movement" kind of like the five star movement. He also stopped being a MEP and returned to the government.

More about the coin coming soon!
I think in my opinion it is rather good to have a country's national currency than these ridiculous union Euro coins. A country can make it's own design of coins. By becoming an union and with other currencies, a country loses it's culture through coins and of course, the whole of national currency. For example, Liechtenstein, follows and is in the customs and monetary union with Switzerland. The currency is Swiss Franc. But Liechtenstein did issue some coins named Krone, Franc, etc. for collectors. They look nice. But the Euro in my opinion does not maintain the national currency of country and their history. Nice to see a 10 Markkaa in the Finnish catalogue.

This is the token with a Väyrynen for president card.
@Monninen

How popular is this Paavo guy in Finnish politics exactly? Would he be a mainstream candidate or someone on the fringe?

I'm just interested in knowing, let's not have anyone start a political fight now.

Quite famous. I would say that he is one of the most famous people in the country. As known as the presidents here. Here is a lot of information about him:

He has been a MEP, Minister for Foreign Trade and International Development, Minister of Foreign Affairs (3 times), Deputy Prime Minister of Finland, Minister of Labour, Minister of Education and a Member of the Finnish Parliament for 45 years.

Also, he sells merchandise (mugs, the thing he is very known here, also silver pins), owns many companies, master investor, he was a friend of Kekkonen, inventor of the phrase "Can one die from being pissed off" and of course a millionaire.

The reason why we dont trust him so much anymore is that he has developed kind of a weird "Now that im old, I must get more and more power" thingy, the same that Kekkonen had. Paavo's dad lived for 100 years, so it is likely that Paavo will be doing politics for long. This is the reason only about 10% of the people support him.

And of course, fun facts:
1. He was born in a smaller village.
2. He is probably the oldest active Finnish politician, not counting for example Martti ahtisaari.
3. He also has written about politics, his life and his father
4. He is quite frugal, he still uses clothes 20 years old.
5. He has 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
6. He is a military "captain"

And also, here is a picture of Paavo dabbing:

Edit: I found a video of paavo "minting" a coin. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MyQF8Ip5X84
Hah, he sounds like the sort of eccentric/wacky politician who occasionally does something amusing, the sort that John Oliver would cover in a segment of Last Week Tonight.
