Like most collectors I collect/have collected a number of things.

Here are some examples of the various collecting fields

1. Pot lids [19th to early 20th century]

2. Buckles [13th to 18th century]

3. Postal stationery [19th to early 20th century]

Collect what you like and like what you collect.
Remember you are only the custodian of you collection, its only yours for your lifetime.
Apart from coins, I actively collect banknotes, stamps, military medals, vintage literature, and really anything else that happens to catches my fancy. My collection, my rules, no? (8

I'm no longer active in buying stamps (kind of lost interest after I got a penny black) and nowadays my only stamps are the ones I get for free with coins, or the ones on Ebay packages that I like to cut out and keep (not usually worth anything, but seems like a shame to throw them away with the envelope).

Military medals (not really interested in civilian ones) I only come across at a reasonable price once in a blue moon, and even then I usually divert my resources to coins and banknotes, which medals certainly take a secondary status to.

For old books, I started a topic on that a while back, and I enjoy reading them, although anything with fancy binding is going to be expensive. Instead I often buy paperbacks, usually if they're historically interesting (e.g. political pamphlets from the Revolution).
Other than coins I collect:

Guns and vintage ammo
Bayonets
Militaria (particularly headgear)
Patches (authentic and fantasy/fictitious)
Banknotes
Minerals
Fossils
Skulls

I would like to collect artifacts but my money is already spread thin enough.

I guess I also have an accumulation of books, but hardly enough to call it a collection.
Buying gold and electrum coins 700bc-1950ad
Also myself collect many other things:
  • cook books (in Italian, English, French, Spanish and portugueise)
  • Mystery books
  • coffe makers
  • egg carriers
  • small glasses for sweet liquors (rosolio)
  • electronic hotel room keys
  • airplane safety instruction cards
  • resturants cards.
Moreover, I keep also if I don't collect, and so I am ready to swap for coins (ask for a list)
  • banknotes
  • tickets (transports, exibitions, musems)
  • tokens
  • lapel pin
  • phone cards

I have quite a big collection of QSL cards, and some IRC coupons too.
If somebody have pre-1945 ones for swap,I'm interested:)
I collect postage stamps, banknotes, 78 rpm records and video games from the Atari 2600 era to today (1977- present for all my non-gamer friends).
1. Stamps. Not as actively as coins.
2. Banknotes. Rarely.
3. Old objects, pre-1917. Rarely.
4. Keys. Only one to go until I have a "full" key collection.
I have a functional collection of frisbee golf discs that I use for playing. I'm up to about 25 of them now.

I also have a collection of semi precious stones (Jade, topaz, agate, jasper, etc) some I've found, some I've picked up from the local rock hunters club fairs and some I've bought from rock shops.
What? Me Worry
I collect:

- Stamps (see here)
- Beer mats (see here)
- Postcards (cities) (see here)
- Postcards (advertising) (see here)
- Sticker albuns (see here)
- Banknotes
...
and some other stuff, but not actively.
Besides coins and banknotes, I collect anything from Ping. For people who don't know. Ping is a golf brand founded by Karsten Solheim. Both my kids have golf related names. My daughter who is 11 is named after Annika Sorenstam. They share the same birthday. My son is named after Karsten Solheim. I have every single Ping iron ever made since the first one came out in 1961. About 55 putters and lots of other stuff.

2. One key from the 1980s - Done
3. One key from the 1940s - Done
4. One key from the late 19th century/early 20th century - Done
5. One key from the late 18th century/ early/middle 19th century - Done
6. A key over 1000 years of age - Not done

Stamps - Major collections NZ and most British commonwealth countries

Nearly all on pages like this (Self printed and professional web albums)

Books in general - particularly NZ history, Gay issues, Maori issues, Archaeology, History and Architecture

Old Records - 78s, 45s etc.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
Other than coins, I collect:

Military and police patches
Silver coins were among the first coins ever used, thousands of years ago. The silver standard was used for centuries in many places of the world. And the use of silver for coins, instead of other materials, has many reasons.
Since 2016, I started collecting fridge magnets of places/cities I’ve been to. Recently made space on the wall to display my collection once it became too much for the fridge lol

I've posted this on the discord as well, but I have a modest collection of various space and space-related hardware. I'm a big space nut and I like collecting parts of space history. I'm only looking for a part that actually had a practical function during the space mission- a pin that was carried to space for the sole purpose of selling to collectors after getting home doesn't cut it.
Most of the items in my collection have been to space, and all of them were once part of a spacecraft. Only one part's never actually been on a mission, and that's part of a Soviet 2nd generation Buran shuttle that was about 10% complete by the time the USSR fell. I'm unable to verify whether my piece of a graphite rudder from a V2/A4 ever actually went to space, but everything else has been.

Current inventory:
Buran thermal tile from Orbiter 2.03
Graphite rudder fragment from V2/A4
Small piece of kapton foil from Apollo 11 Command Module
Large fragment of Japanese H-IIB rocket fairing (Flight 3)
Small shavings of bolt used to seal the hatch of Vostok 1

Looking for bits and pieces of the Chinese and Indian space programs. The Chinese are notoriously secretive about their space program even today, and the only bit that I've ever seen is a bit of rocket skin that currently resides in the Hong Kong Space Museum that was donated by the Chinese government. Grand prize would be something from a really obscure/secretive program, for example a South Korean KSLV, Israeli Shavit, Iranian Simorgh, Ukrainian Zenit, North Korean Taepodong or Unha. If I ever get any one of these, it'll likely be the crown jewel of my collection.

I'm hoping that in the future I'll get enough money to buy entire rockets and spacecraft and make a museum. Russia's got a few dozen used Soyuz capsules just lying around in Kazakhstan, don't think they'd mind if I take one of them off their hands...

I have over 2,700 books!
- by author: Clive Cussler, Dave Barry, Harry Turtledove, Kurt Vonnegut, Mark Twain, Jack London
- by subject: submarines, time travel, American Revolution, Pacific theater of WW2- My oldest book was published in Dublin in 1795.

78rpm records: I have over 800. Most of them are from the 1940s, but they cover the entire 1905-1955 range. The collection includes complete albums, foreign releases, and first editions from Glenn Miller and Frank Sinatra. Stamps: 3,500 of these. This is my youngest collection, and the one I put the least effort into. I have absorbed a few whole collections and bulk lots.
Boardgames: I have over 500 of them. Most are modern (1993-present), but the oldest ones are from the 1950s. I have a particular fondness for classic Asian games like mahjong and go.

Impressive
HongKongCoinCollector - niche hobby. I wouldn't know where to start
Just a little bit of info, just to make it even more interesting.
The large shell in the centre, is around 36 inches tall with a 150mm calibre. It is dated 1915 and is from either a German warship or howitzer. There is German writing around the primary fuse which I have never translated, even though I bought it in the early 1970's for £12.00.
My smallest is bullets 7.62mm

Bluehawk.
As for starting! If you look just in front of the large shell, you can see shells with a green projectile in each one. These were my grandfathers. Dated 1938. 40mm Ack-Ack

Coinman1 - nice heirloom. I am sure there are nice stories attached to it.
As for stories, I expect it would be in 4 or 5 volumes.
Went to a small market in South Wales last year, and a guy had a shell dated 1944. Instant reminder of D-Day, so thought this is going to be expensive. Cheekily, I asked for his best price, and he replied £10.00. I think I nearly broke his hand when I took it from him.
Seen a few in a local antique shop at over £60.00 for smaller sizes

Any particular artists you own?

Also your Compact Disc collection is like 10% the size of what we’ve got. Our CD collection fits in 1 cabinet similar to yours 2 drawers out of 4 (rest cassettes) and a quarter of a another cabinet with DVD, VHS and vinyls.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
For other collections I have that are not numismatic related.

I have a modest collection of postcards from 1918-now from my travels around the world.

Also I collect automotive brochures mostly newer cars but I do have a couple from the late 80s which were handed down from my parents.

Finally the thing that you can call a collection is Airline amenity kits from the last 6 years but I do own Concorde inflight kit which I bought from Ebay about 3 years ago.

I reviewed all the classical music with a particular affection for Sergueï Rachmaninov and Olivier Messiaen, the pop music, I might be the only French to get all the records of Daryl Hall & John Oates :D, the French singers on the fringes of the mass distribution (them at least have something to say ...) and the Jazz with Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, only with these two artists there are already dozens of records:8D
I threw away all my vinyls and my cassettes ; the quality obtained by the CDs, the dynamics, particularly for the classical music makes my old supports useless. It amuses me a lot to see young people again interested in vinyls, a fashion phenomenon no doubt, the sound is round like a balloon.

Interesting I’m not really into music but I can tolerate certain music such as classical and most music from the 50s to the early 2000s where the numbers of songs I don’t mind dwindle to 1 in 2017.

To enter in our secret gardens, here are some nuggets that I will not let me listen to:
In classical music, what was my amazement in the 80s to discover this Chilean who reinvented Chopin's nocturnes. Everything was new in his interpretation

For me Jazz is the roots of a civilization and this interpretation of the "dance of fire" by Aziza Zadeh from Azerbaijan is the archetype.

These two are brilliant especially the second one because it feels like either that I’m in a bar with a date with that music in the background in the late 50s.

Sadly the other two are not my cup of tea.

Other than coins, banknotes, and (to some extent) tokens, I'm also collecting bouncy balls, rocks, and dice! The photo below is only a part of my collection. :) I used to collect shells as well.

I've been collecting coins for the longest period of time, though. Dice come a close second.

Have a nice day to colleagues.

I wanted to awaken the collector's passion in my grandchildren, I bought them a bag of semi-precious stones to sort , fun for 3 hours and the rest you have finished and postponed, so far they have no ambition to collect anything.
Your question is about duplicates?
Even with precious gems, for example, it does not hurt -when there are more of the same species in the collection---( Of course, it's my humor for colleagues in a better mood)
This is a cheap little pile of stones from all over the world, the grandchildren don't like it anymore and we will see it in the future.

Yup! I tend to include duplicates as well in all my collections. (One can never have too much of one thing :)) Also, it kind of calms my paranoid self that at least I still have more of one object if something bad happens or if one piece gets lost.

My friend is an avid photographer and has a backup of his photos on 2 different web storage sites. 2 physical drives at home, one in the garage and one drive at his work place. He echoes what you said....what if something happens to one drive.....
Somehow it did happen that throughout the last year or two I decided that collecting coins is absolutely boring.
Recently I become aware that there are websites where I can register other "personal collections" accumulated since my childhood, namely Discogs (for music) and Goodreads (for books).

First, on music: I don't own much music in physical formats, but I'm happy that I can register (almost) everything in the database. I was pleasantly surprised that I can enter not only "real" records but also so-called "unofficial" ones, and that it is very easy (when compared with coins in Numista) to become a person who can claim the ownership of something unique: I've got bunch of records not present in the database or not owned by anyone else (or, more precisely, by other users of the website). Maybe I'm not a real collector, because I'm not inclined to acquire physical records which I wouldn't enjoy listening to many times, and all physical formats now in 2022 are instances of obsolete (and harmful for the environment) technologies anyway, but yes, I'm sentimental about them – it is pleasant to be surrounded by the shelves full of records, playback equipment... and books. (And it is better when the books dominate the picture.)

And now a word or two about books: previously I've thought that Goodreads is a website for people who can (or want) read only in English, and preferably something that is present in current TOP-10 of Amazon and/or Bill Gates' reading list. (Of course I prefer books in my own language, because I'm a fan of it.) But no, the situation is already different: there are many books in other languages registered in the database (both fiction and nonfiction) and it is easy to fill the gaps quickly. So I started registering what I own, and possibly in the future I will also register other books I've read (or at least just notable ones). I enjoy this process, again not so much of the pure inclination of collecting and/or hoarding something, but because I enjoy making sort of a personal journal of my past life, of my attempts to broaden horizons and educate myself.
ūūūūū
I wouldn't say I collect them, but I do have an extensive book library. I've been using Goodreads for a while. It's nice to know what I've read and what I thought of it. If anything, I guess you could say I collect Anne McCaffrey books. Fell in love with Pern when I was a grade schooler and that passion has carried through to adulthood.

For actual collections, I'm pretty big into comic books. I buy a lot of new stuff, but I always keep an eye out for older books. Even though they aren't worth much, I've got a soft spot for books from the 90's and 80's. Just snagged a copy of Venom: Lethal Protector #1 (1st solo series) and Marvel Spotlight #6 (1st appearance of Star-Lord) in an eBay lot for cheap. I don't have a lot of keys, just can't afford them, but I've got a few. My favorite book right now is my Something is Killing the Children #1 Jenny Frisson virgin variant. Right now it's worth a little over $200 but should heat up even more when the Netflix series comes out.

I am also a Robin Hood collector. I've got maybe 500 books from different authors, publishers, languages and printings. From antique figurines to kids toys. String puppets to movie posters. Since I've been more interested in coins though my Robin Hood budget has shrunken to zero.
In the past
- I did 30 years of comic book collecting, basically anything related to Marvel Comics' X-Men mutant superhero group - gave it up 8 years ago, most of it sold off and looking to get rid of the last of it.
- Was collecting a signature guitar pin from every Hard Rock Cafe opened, started this 25 years ago when I was working on cruise ships, when they weren't opening and closing them faster than I could get pins. Realized I could never finish this collection - had about 180 guitars from 180 different Cafes, Hotels, Clubs, and Casinos. Selling those off, maybe 40 left.
- Was collecting glossy 8"x10" photographs of my favourite ice hockey players and getting them autographed (but I knew that was to sell them off later on to pay for some vacations). Had about 200, most gone except for a specific subset mentioned below..
- Recently took a year and a half to upgrade my collection of all Disney/Pixar movies from DVDs to Blu-ray when Disney+ streaming service came out and people were selling their copies, knowing that I wasn't going to get the service. Until I fell prey to the one month trial for $1.99 trap. And now I have the service anyway because the wife found a lot that she likes.. B.

What is current and not numismatica?
- I'll still get a hard copy of the new Disney and Pixar movies, even if I keep the Disney+ service.
- Of the ice hockey autographed photos, I kept the ones of every player to score 500 goals or more over his career in the regular season, and some of the ones that should get there in the future.
- I kept all the Hard Rock Cafe guitar pins of the Cafes my wife and I have visited/eaten at together (plus the cities where I proposed and where we got married). If that means we visit one now and I've already sold the pin from there, I'll get a new one.
Besides banknotes and Hiberno-Norse coins, I collect Victorian era enamel badges of banknotes, postage stamps and print media.

I have the full set too in books. I was missing one set and sent them a letter in 1973 to see if I could get it. They replied that they only had one copy of each in their archive and wished they had kept more. I later found someone who had it and traded some stamps for it. It was series one songbirds.

FrenchloverI like owls, as our friend Darryl

I got (and still have) my pair of owls five years ago.

https://en.numista.com/forum/topic56855.html#p473114

Made from recycled shredded UK banknotes.

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Numismatic owls! Nice. They are well made too.

What is their face value in terms of shredded notes?

Mostly £10 notes as far as I can see (brown notes for brown owls) - I guess when

shredding they would all be the same denomination - and that the end user making

them kept them like that. Maybe 20 shredded notes, so £200 face value before shredded. Maybe.

I got them off my shelf just now and measured them - 70mm tall and 35mm across middle.

also made just now these new pictures, showing some details >

That is me holding them, adding a 1 Pound and a 1 Penny coin for size comparison.

Some of the serial number parts can also be seen inside. All in a solid plastic outer coating.

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Very nice. I wonder if there are any replacement notes in them!

I have  a block of shredded £20 notes, as a block, for burning in one's domestic fireplace - I never had the heart to burn them!

The owls are much cooler though.

I had to clean out my storage unit recently to save money and realised most of it was just junk. But there were some treasures from my childhood.

One was an obsession I had with Garfield (The orange cat) from about 1988 to 2000. I had plenty of the soft toys, figurines and nearly every book to that point.

I have just found them and realised the cartoons are still funny, but will hardly go back to it as it was childish and rather 80s. Although the Youtube internet craze over turning him into a horror thing is bizarre “Gorefield”.

Same with my old Asterix books in the 80s, quite funny but the racism in them would not fly today. I am amazed that Europeans were still drawing Africans with ruby red lips covering the bottom half of their faces and long ape like arms as late as 1983!

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Finally Emirates plastic cups (got four in total).

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

im still kicking myself over losing the metal cutlery I uh “borrowed” from Mexicana Airlines from a flight in 1999.

I have a very small (4) fossil collection. Consisting of three ammonites and a orthoceras. I want to get some more but im also lazy and cheap lol

I like NES games.

Wooden Pigs.

FrozenPlatypus

I have over 400 of these ……

Those pics are of just a few I have. They are EFE or Corgi die cast Model Buses the vast majority of them from the UK.

I was heavily into collecting them from 2005 to around 2015. I used to buy them second hand in batches of 6 or 8 and get them shipped to Australia via surface mail (Sea Mail) to keep costs down. Then I kind of lost interest and got more serious about coins.

Currently my wife is “Encouraging” me to get rid of them. I have sold about 6 of them but it is like selling your children.

Cheers Mike

They're displayed so beautifully!

I collect functional typewriters! Preferably non-electric.

It all begun because we had a teacher in my high school who wanted computer free lessons, but my handwritting is terrible. Unfortunatly I never got to try this with my teacher 😂

Most of them are with Danish keyboard, but I really hope to get different languages too.

My favourit by design is the red one, since I love red!

Probably oldest (looking) I have, so far.
Biggest and most advanced. Still trying to figurer it out!
Smallest and most portabel. It doesn't have the Danish Å, but it has ñ instead! This is also the one I use the most, when I write letters or alike
My granfather said hw used this type during his military service, during the cold war
My first real foreign language typewriter. Arabic. Notice the handle placement. Quite new, still getting to know it (also seems to have a few flaws), and I don't know Arabic, haha.
My collection so far. Still growing hopefully!
I have a soft spot for origami paper cranes.

Well most of the items get thrown away apart from  headphones, plates and silverware from business class and up because those type of headphones are like real proper headphones and the other items can be reused.

The one that is discussed most is the safety cards which is illegal to take from an aircraft unless the card has been damaged, regulations updated or the plane has been decommissioned for scrap then the cards can be removed by collectors.

Believe me collecting amenity kits is a hobby very few people know about and the most valuable ones are from obscure airlines, pre 1980s or from famous aircraft such as Concorde.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

Things that I am and was collecting, besides numismatics:

  • philately
  • deltiology
  • books (mostly about history)
  • vinyl records (1970's to 1990's)

Not generalized collections but very specialized.

10 years ago I still had all the personal computers since the first one that I purchased in 1988. All the monitors and the first two computers are now gone. I still have all the cellphones that I have purchased, except the first two from the 1980's and 1990's.

PS. Almost forgot - those small packages of sugar you get everywhere when you buy a coffee. They are really nice to have when going on roadtrips.

Yes, and those as well, even though I rarely buy/eat junk food anymore. I always feel so ripped-off after such a meal. McD is the worst with BKing second. We eat home made burgers now - all fresh and only at 20% of the price of junk food.

When you make your own burgers you don't have to worry about getting skimped on condiments.

Deltiology - wasn't aware of this word.

I used to collect them for a while many years ago.

I didn't know that! Interesting.

I was tempted to jokingly ask: “Sooo… Anyone wanna swap typewritters? Greek? Cyrilic? Hangul? Other languages? Swapping for Danish typewritters.” 😂

Probably not worth the postage price though, haha.

As I argued some years ago, after aquirering my second typewritter:

“A non electronic and portable computer, which is more green and without dangerous components. Can't be hacked and print in real time. Saves money on printer and ink. No need to update nor will it get outdated, like modern computers. Something which a technologically illiterate like me can use… Just annoying if I need mutiple examples of the same text, haha"

Much more came to mind after having a conversation with my wife. It's not exactly a collection, but the kitchen drawers has an extended and very nice assortment of single wrapped items one tends to get or can take when dining out, flying or staying at a hotel:

  • sugar
  • salt
  • pepper
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • mayo (various)
  • milk, cream (powder or liquid)
  • tea (bag or instant)
  • coffee (instant)

Then there are also utensils in different materials and colours:

  • spoon (large, small)
  • fork
  • knife
  • chopsticks
  • napkin
  • toothpick (even with mint flavour)
  • wet tissue

In some places it is still possible to get such items with their logo printed to the wrapping or directly to the item.

Did anybody mention wine?

😮 Oenology

That is one hobby that needs a lot of knowledge and equipment. Different temperature zones for different wines etc. Doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, especially when living in a wine country.

I'll stick to whisky and rum where the only mischief is the angel's share. 🧚

One of my collecting interests is, like with coins, connected to “nautica” but on stamps.

Here are a few pages from the collection. All texts are handwritten and pages made specifically for their content. Time consuming but brings me pleasure.
