unusual holed coin

4 posts
I have a George III 1816 contemporary fake shilling made of brass which has a hole in it which i assumed it was done by a numpty so that it could be worn. I then realized that it went through Georges chin which was a bit odd as his head would be horizontal rather than vertical so i looked on the other side and this would make the reverse design upside down. So assuming the hole was not put in to wear the coin i was wondering is their is any other reasons for sticking holes through them?
The point of the holes is to tell if it's real or not, I think.

I did wonder if that was the case but thought that it would be easier to wiegh it. I cant think of any other logical explination though.
Well,

They didn't have good weights at the time.
