Louis XII double tournois - 1640

5 posts
Hello, I need help again:

Does anyone know what this coin is? I bought it on eBay, where it was listed as a 1640 double tournois, but I can't find the exact same coin on Numista or anywhere (most of the times the portrait is looking right) and it's very perplexing. Perhaps the way I looked it up was wrong?

Also, do you think it's genuine?

diameter: (roughly) 35mm
weight: 2g

Hmm. Thank you for the clue, it looks very similar indeed!

Hello,

Genuine for sure.
I think the date is 1643 when you look closer :

The thing right to the three is the mintmark. Usually it's a letter but it can be a symbol too. Here it looks like a cross.
Here we have a cross but it's not the same cross, moreover the 3 lys are not circled :

I think this one might be the closest on cgb :

There are the reference but I don't have the mentioned books.

I think the page on numista is here :

We can read on obverse : D.FRAN.ET.NAV. So it's (g) combination on obverse. With the greek cross (4) or normal cross (1), i'm not sure.
Hope it helps :)
Thank you so much! That's very helpful. I could hardly see the 3 and didn't know there were so many variants and all!
