Identification - ship and captain medals?

Does anyone know the story behind these medals? I think they are going to be some sort of Cerial box or petrol station give away but I have these two and I'm interested in their background.

Captain Woodget, portrait rev. Cutty Sark 1869 commemorative medal – view of the clipper  Richard Woodget was master of the clipper (now carrying wool from Australia) when it successfully overtook the steamship Britannia en route for Liverpool.  Medal  probably for 100th anniversary in 1969.currently on display in  simmons gallery

Thanks for the reply I do not think they were issued to commemorate a specific event I have found two more Captain and ship medals and I have seen the Captain Scott on sale on the internet but as yet I still do not know who issued them.

 Solved !   
They were from Tudor Crisps in Peterlee, County Durham, England.
It was in a series called 'Shipmates'
Picture below, of a still sealed packet, which shows your Captain Woodget medallion ...

 Issued about 40 years ago - in the 1970's
The company, on the above photo, says Tudor Food Products, so I guess they made other things as well as crisps (or chips as is called in America).
 Not sure if there was one in each packet; or perhaps say six empty packets had to be collected then sent to Peterlee to get one medallion posted by return.
 It's a start anyway, for further research, and to see if there were more than the four you already have!

P.S. As you are in Northumberland, you may have seen them more in your area, being closer to County Durham. Not sure if Tudor Crisps were sold 'down south' !      

 I now found three other promotions/series issued by Tudor.
There was 'Underwater Wonders' and 'Flutter-Byes' and 'Wear-Em Scare-Ems'.



  I can just make out in part of the first item it mentions sending 80 pence to an address in Sunderland.
The 'Wear-Em Scare-Ems' were ... SCAREDEVIL, SHRUNKEN HEAD, NAXIA SPINX, VOODOO MASK, AZTEC MASK, GORGANS HEAD, WEREWOLF - and were issued in 1973/74. I think there were eight of those in a set, and I think the missing one was SKULL & CROSSBONES.
  Finally, if those all were not enough, they also issued football bages in a series - such as HULL, CELTIC, LEEDS and so on. All above look nice !  

Thanks everybody knowing the name shipmates made it easy I now know there was eight in the set so I will keep a look out for them when I'm rummaging around looking for stuff.
