Recently I put some items (not hobby-related) I no longer needed up for sale on Ebay, and of course I began thinking if I should do the same with my duplicate coins and notes.
Only thing is, this will be the first time I've done so, and I'm curious to know how often coin dealers there make sales; I see sometimes the same, medium-priced coins have been relisted again and again for months and months (some of the more expensive ones for years even), and I wonder if I'm not just better off swapping them here on Numista anyway- most of the coins and notes I would list are worth around 20 euro each, so nothing too fancy.
So if anyone who's had experience in selling coins or notes on Ebay could give me some expectations and advice on that, would be much appreciated.
Selling on eBay costs the seller money.
10% to eBay and 4% to PayPal, if you use that.
So, if you are selling for €20, then after deducting 14%, you end up with €17.20.
You now need to balance this against lowering you estimated value on Numista to, say €18.00 and then exchange where possible, and everyone will gain.
I have sold and tried to sell many times, but it has not always worked out, as potential buyers probably thought my opening offer was too high, although, it was well below catalogue.
I sell a few times every year, for me it's always been well worth it.
I usually get the best results with my sales starting at 1€
not all of course but several sell for quite a bit higher than I expected

I actually sell on ebay a fair bit and find the wide market it gives access to a blessing for selling objects like rare books. While on smaller sales (20$ or so) fees and shipping become quite a hassle, on the other hand your items they are guaranteed to sell!
Overall, I like the system, it's pretty user-friendly.

I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
I'm not comfortable with the idea of listing my items as auctions from a low price primarily because I've been able to get silver coins for under melt in Ebay auctions where I was the only bidder before, and I fear having that done to me. And if your starting price for an auction is around catalogue value then that makes bidders less incentivised.... So if I do go ahead it'll probably be "Buy it now" with some room for offers.
The Ebay and Paypal fees were expected, but I'm prepared to deal with them if it gives me wider access to potential buyers- but sellers, I want to know, on average, what's your rate of listed items sold, and how long does it usually take for a listed item to be sold?
I generally sell on reddit as I don't have to pay fees for that, but what I can't sell there (not as big of a market) I turn to ebay. Of course the items have to be at least worth around $1 because maybe someone will actually buy them, duplicates of very cheap coins like post war French francs for example I would just sell in bulk lots.

Wow, I didn't even know selling on reddit was a thing until now, is there any particular subreddit you sell on?
