I'm looking to get my first gold coin very soon. Do any of you think its a good idea to buy gold coins just for the sake of numismatics right now, or should I wait for the price of gold to drop? Also should I get the coin graded and slabbed, or can I just leave a gold coin laying around? I'd be buying from a long time local dealer, so I trust them. Total gold noob here. Any help please?

If you sell me some shrimp, I can get you a gold coin.
Just kidding. Alright so I'd wait for gold to drop in value. So far for a pure ounce it's about 18 hundred? In fact I have a pure gold ounce coin that I should sell instead of keep.
If you're new to coin collecting, you shouldn't focus on expensive coins. Maybe you should start with silver. You can go long ways with it, such as when I bought a thousand dollars worth of silver for 10 bucks from a friend.

To be completely honest, I hate shrimp. :P
I have about $500 in silver and lots of copper and steal coins I haven't bothered to put in Numista yet. Its just these darn gold coins that keep alluding me! Lots of people tell me to wait, but the dealers lol... That's another story. I wish the whole focus on scrapping all this history for $50 at your local Cash 4 Gold would go away. I just want to hold some gold that people used to use as money. x.x Thanks a lot, I'll at least wait for it to drop below platinum.

Yep! I haven't looked in forever, and now that I want to buy one it's way up there.
Gold $1,674.60
Silver $32.32
Platinum $1,592.40
Palladium $649.00
Is there any way I should keep the coin to keep it looking pretty? Anything different from silver? Thanks for the advice, I don't want to spend all the money if it's just going to burst. I'll wait. :D

They're usually for proof coins, but they should be used for gold coins too.
Gold doesn't really tarnish or anything, so you shouldn't do anything to it. In fact, you shouldn't be fixing up any coins you have.
By the way, you have a nice collection. I have two Standing Liberty quarters that are overworn and I should just sell them. But if you have silver coins, would you like to exchange them?

Thanks for the tips! I don't use any of that coin dip stuff any how. All of my silver and some other coins are all in flips and labeled with whom I got them from, when I got them, or who I got them with. So I could never trade any of those away. Even my 1953 Roosevelt which I got as change from a #1 China was the first date with my girlfriend lol. The only thing I have no attachment to is my wheat cents, as I search for those in bank boxes myself. I think I have just a few you need. I know I've got a 1909. I wouldn't expect any silver or anything, but if you need any of them I'd be happy to try a trade. I know its nothing too special... :/
