Teeran? Syno-Syrian?

Hello,
I’ve noticed that some sellers give their coins and artifacts strange (or so it appears to me, history inexpert, at any rate) origins, such as – to name a few sellers I’ve bought from multiple times – “Teeran” by enjoytreasure on eBay (Western Satraps drachms; “Tehran,” maybe?) and “Syno-Syrian” by The Time Machine on VCoins. What do you think these are, exactly? My google searches have brought me no answers...

Also, I see that in numismatic context some place names are often spelt differently from their standard spellings (Ellichpur/Elichpur, for example) but is there a reason for that? Historical spellings or different languages or such?

Both; in historical sources we often see annotations, for cities/countries/regions where markedly different names have been used by different countries historically (e.g. Danzig/Gdansk, or Fiume/Rijeka), or if the name was changed at some point (e.g. St. Petersburg/Petrograd/Leningrad).

The possibility of it just being a simple typo is also present, if you see a really unorthodox term being used. :`
Hmm, I see! I guess about that I still have a LOT to learn, haha (I totally forgot Gdansk = Danzig, oops...)

I was once trying to bid on a coin from Iran (listed as "Iran"), but when I tried to complete the process, a note came up that said I was not allowed to bid on that item as there were sanctions against Iran from the United States. Even though I'm Canadian, I do my business through eBay.com, not eBay.ca - the Canadian version. It wasn't long after that I saw other coins from Iran listed as "Teeran".. since I didn't try to bid on the second auction I don't know if I would have been successful, but I just assumed the new name was a way to get around eBay's filters that trigger certain negative results.
In the same vein, I've seen coins from Cuba called "Caribbean coin", and coins from Sudan listed as "S O U D A N" with spaces and wrong spelling, again presumably to fool eBay's automatic filters and get around diplomatic sanctions..

I believe this is correct. I've seen sellers use Persi instead of Persian probably for the same reason.

"Soudan" is also the French spelling of the name, and was also formerly used in English before standardisation as "Sudan". Unfortunately for Iran and Cuba, their names are the same in French and English, so no dice there. :(

I've also seen "Pahlavi" used for pre-1979 Iranian coins (the name of their ruling dynasty until the Islamic Revolution), as well as the old, Chinese-derived name of "Chōsen" for (North) Korea.
Interesting! That makes sense so much. I'm so clueless about these political/diplomatic things haha
