A good year ago, i came across a little box with old coins in separate little paper envelopes. I am not a coin collector, so i looked at some of them, found them to be pretty and interesting, but then i put them aside and forgot about them for a long time. A few weeks ago, i found these coins again in my room and i had a few hours of time to kill, so i started to unpack each coin and try to find information on the internet. This is how i found numista.com, too. Very helpful! I started cataloging all the coins i have here on this site and realized that half of them are medals, not coins. They are approx. 30 coins and 30 medals. All from Central/South America, all 19th century (except one 17 something and a few 19 something). You can find them here in my profile.
As i said, i am not a coin collector, but this process was a lot of fun and i even bought those paper coin holders with the clear window... i may start collecting, it had something meditative to it.
Now to the point (sorry for babbling): During my researches, i found out that one of the coins is actually valuable (the one from the title, this one i think). I tried to take photos, but the color of the coin looks a good bit brighter and clearer in reality. Also, i left it in this coin holder, maybe it should have taken it out. Is this coin real an actually worth something? I saw websites selling it here and here for a fantasy amount of money.
What do you think? Is it real? Thank you for your help! I'm starting to get hooked on this :)
