Hi all, hoping your knowledge can help me identify this small coin, it's in terrible condition but I always like to identify what i have and this one is proving very elusive.
I think I have the right date (AH1293) and the correct year (8) which would make it approx 1884 in the Gregorian calendar, please correct me if I am mistaken. I also think the face value is 20 but again I am probably wrong. I have been on many coin databases but I just cannot find the right match, Turkish coin come closest anyway images are attached, size is approx 13mm and it is very thin <1mm
Thanks for any help you can give

 Welcome to the site.  :)
I agree with 1293 and 20 numerals and am looking, so hold on a while ...

I think you are nearly there although, I think the date is AH1293 and regnal year 8 > 1882 in the Gregorian Calendar (isn't it?). So, I'm thinking that it might not be on here yet...but I can't be sure:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces27524.html ------but for Abdul Aziz II??? (Just a guess!)
I think you are right with the 20 para and the diameter is a match.

Though that is for a silver coin.
Maybe yours is a forgery, made back in the day, which at the time could have passed for a silver coin.
It is lower left in the screen picture (Standard Catalogue of World Coins 1801-1900). As mentioned above it is not on Numista yet.

OK Guys, thank you for your very quick responses, I think I have it now.

I found this  http://www.ebay.ca/itm/300696591258

the picture is the same and all the details match (except I think they got the AH date wrong)

I thought it might be nickel plated but it looks to be silver - should I clean it ???
I guess I should look on the cleaning section but advice on whether I should or not is welcome.
It is amazing what you can find on a North East beach :-)

Thank you again for your knowledge and assistance

ZacUK, thanks for your help and your welcome to the forum  :-)
Wish I had a catalogue!
Your coin is identical with the one on eBay, 20 para, 1293 year 8.
The text reads: "Daraba fi Kunstantiniye", which means "struck in Istanbul", so it is listed under Turkey in most catalogs.
Identical Ottoman issues with different mints, such as for ""Misr" (Egypt), "Tunis" are listed - historically incorrectly - under their later country names in KM, regardless of the fact that Tunisia and Egypt was totally under the Ottoman monetary system.

thanks  imreh - so, if read it correctly, the person who lost this coin is most likely to have come from Istanbul or surrounds rather than Tunisia or Egypt.
