Hello,
Thanks for the list. There are currently more than 400 requests pending. We'll get to all of them, but it will take a while

Hello,
Before I add these, I just want to check:
Did all these Banks issue notes for national circulation?

e.g. Was the Bank of Paysandú issuing notes that were legal tender in the whole of Uruguay? or just locally in Paysandú?

Best
:wiz:
As per the law allowing private banks to issue banknotes, they all had national circulation value.
In real those only circulated in their region, but if would be used on other part of the country they had to be accepted. And some were just branches of the main one.
Just keep in mind our country is too small, longest road is 640 Km long.
"Parva Domus, Magna Quies"

Okay thanks,

Uruguay is twice the size of Austria, and Austria already has more than 300 local issuers, so size is not a criterion.

Some comments:
1. Do you have the original names of all these? Because:
-- I would like to type them with all the accents and diacritics (e.g. Paysandú, Mauá, etc)
-- I need to also translate in French
-- We would not translate everything anyway, like "Sagua La Grande" should not be translated to "Sagua, the Great"

2. We cannot differentiate types of issues here, we just list institutions:
-- For example "Treasury Bonds" is a type of issue, not the name of the bank. The entity would probably be "El Tesoro publico", as that's what is written on the notes: "El Tesoro publico se obliga a pagar por medio del Banco Espanol de la Habana".
-- same for "Public Debt Drafts", "Emergency Postal Script Issues", etc: it's just the type of note, not the name of the issuing bank or institution.

3. So if the Treasury issued notes in 1869 and 1889 - it's still the same institution, we will not add it twice. If the name of the institution changed... we can consider

4. We also cannot differentiate between periods, governments, or administrations in this field. So "Republic of Cuba, Revolutionary issue" is again not an institution. If I read P#60, it says: "Este billete sera oportunamente cambiado en effectivo por la Tesoreria general de Hacienda..." So again, this is issued by the treasury.

Very well explained.

I will check my list and add the original (Spanish) names. Maybe it helps to translate them. About French, I did not add it, cause after 4 years "learning" the language, I can understand a few words, but mostly it flew from my head, so only I could do is to use an automatic translator.

As soon as I have it, I will add it here.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Hi adanieluy,

Sorry for bothering you again. Could you please provide an update here?
No worry if you can't provide a translation in French.

Yes, no problem, I will work on this and the other 2 threads in the weekend (already working on Paraguay issuers), today and tomorrow will be busy days for me, but then I'll have a break.
