How to crop an image? [solved]

7 posts • viewed 176 times
I am trying to add a new coin to the catalogue, but a referee wants me to crop an image. I am guessing he wants only the coin with no background. How do I crop a circle in paint, or is there a free thing online that can do that? I only see a square in paint.
I use PhotoScape - it is free and good. :)

Edit - here is a page I put an example on, eight years ago >

I personally use PhotoScape X too, but you can use any image editing program (photo shop, gimp ...).
You can also use PowerPoint. Add a picture to a slide and use remove background from a picture feature

Then use "save as a picture".

Quite good option especially when you need to delete a background from a non-circle coin

On Paint, you draw a circle in white around the coin with the largest possible width and you put a second circle a little bit larger and again since you get a suffisant white band width around your coin

Then you select the "free selection" to cut all around the coin. You might use the zoom function sometimes.

When the background is white, you switch back to "rectangular selection" to move your token to the upper left corner

Then you shrink the image from the left and from the bottom to get the picture cropped !

You might also change the width and height of the picture - in pixel mode (without keeping proportions) in order to get a round shape coin.

The joint use of "μsoft picture manager" to rotate images or define the area that is "white" is often useful

Following on from my earlier reply, here is a current example:
This is an 1862 medallion I bought, which is not yet on our site.
These are the seller's pictures, until I can make my own ...

and then I used PhotoScape to remove the background ...

It has very many features - such as crop, rotate, change colour,
screen capture, resize, sharpen, bright / dark, and so on.
It also makes animations, like this I did recently ...
