Hello,
I have a jubilee head coin, it diameter is about 38.8 mm and weight 26.8 gr.
As i understend The weight supose to be about 28.3 gr.
Does it mean it is mot genuine?

Thanks, Uri.
Again, the metal is the wrong colour - too grey so not silver.
The details are too new-looking. I made these for comparison ...

Your coin - on the reverse the ground is not as long, and BP initials moved.

I agree Petrus. The image you provided is fantastic in showing the subtle differences in the dies....the hand on the knight and the horses tail to wit. The reverse was consistent for many years.

Great article too
Hello,

Good morning, Uri. It looks like a Jubilee Head Crown [issued 1887-1892]. The dimensions and weight you give are very close to the specifications for one. Yours - if I have read the date correctly - is 1888.

"Years: 1887-1892
Value: 1 Crown = 5 Shillings (1/4)
Currency: Pound sterling (1158-1970)
Composition: Silver (.925)
Weight: 28.28 g
Diameter: 38.61 mm"

PS: I have silver coins in my collection, and if not sealed in an air-tight slip, can tarnish over time. Thus, their 'bloom' or 'lustre' dulls.
Hello Alex,
Thank you for the detailed answer.
Because the coin is in great condition, i belive the weight should be correct, i, e. 28.3 gr.
I weighted it on 2 different scales so i think there is a pronlem whith the coin.

Many thanks, Uri.
1 Million % FAKE!

Hi Uri. You are very welcome. It is a 'fine line' when looking at coins or tokens in photos, as to the exact nature of the item in question. Which is why the weight and dimensions are useful. Also the condition of the coin, if possible.

Regards, Alex.
Thanks again!
