Hi some of u may laugh but I need to sterilize my coin
Reason:
1- I hold these coins everyday and it's full of microbes and bacterias and viruses
2- My little sister holds them then she puts her finger in her mouth
So my question is if I rub my coins with alcohol what will happen to them
It will ruin or damage the coin ? or it is safe ?
Thanks !!!
Please don't laugh  0:)

LOL! Tequila or Rum?
I take it you are talking about well circulated coins? Wash them in an anti bacterial dishwashing liquid and rinse out with plenty of water. If they are UNC or proof don't handle them with your fingers - use cotton or rubber gloves so you don't get prints on them ( kind of takes the fun out of coin collecting doesn't it? :D )
Ok thanks i will try it im talking about 1990 - coins

copper is already antibacterial!
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Not all my coins are copper, I also got bimetallique coins

I bet you're talking about disinfection, not sterilization. After sterilization your coins will get all sorts of bacteria within hours unless you'll put them in air-tight capsule right away.
Silver is also antibacterial and anti fungal but I wouldnt know about viruses. If I were you I wouldn't worry about it unless you or any of your family have a compromised immune system. I'm in the habit of washing my hands before handling coins; perhaps it's a good idea to after as well.

Germs stay on money for 20 days. When I get a coin or a bill, I leave it in a box for 20 day and then take it out. That's how my collection stays "clean".
Hmm this has me thinking now as I handle bare handed and I'm not sure if I wash after every time ! I have a suppressed immune due to me having psoriatic arthritis - I have to take 20mg of methotrexate and have sulfasalazine too !

That's right, silver is so powerful it's used in water purification (not to mention it kills vampires) and copper is now being used as hospital counter tops and cabinet door knobs.
Both are highly antimicrobial, that includes virus. Copper is also a female contraceptive!

I know copper kills the superbug (mrsa) within 20/30 mins I've fitted the special taps that are pure copper in hospitals before !

Good lord you have the patience of a saint.  When I get a new coin I can't wait to bag it and tag it and stick it in my album.  It's usually out of the parcel and into my album within 10 minutes.

It's okay, nearly every day I have something else coming out of the box!
