Help - Cataloging an inherited collection

4 posts • viewed 106 times
Hi
I’m new. My wife just inherited a collection of coins dating from late 1600’s to post decimal. Most UK, but many InterNational around WWI and WWII as the collector was a British Navy man who travelled the World during his service.

We’ve identified and catalogued into a spreadsheet all but the last 50 or so, which are very worn with limited identification marks.

First, We would particularly like to identify these three. Perhaps more later.

Second, we would like advice on getting a Realistic valuation, prior to sale/auction.

We are located near Peterborough
and would appreciate help from the forum.

Thanks

First two are from the UK - Farthing (25mm) and Penny (34mm) using
measurements from your pictures.
The third coin is a jeton made in Germany.

The second coin was damaged to start making a ring - I have similar.

Also need pictures brighter, and showing the other sides.
This is similar to one side of your third coin ...

with a central rose and alternating three crowns with three fleur-de-lis around.

That’s great thanks
both the rims on the first two seem to have been broadened out so that the penny is around 7mm thick.
Pretty sure they have the head of George II or III facing to the right, one certainly has the longer plated breads at the back of the neck. They are both heavier than any other coins we have .

Any further thoughts on those including dates would be helpful.

here is the other side of the Jeton
which isn’t great but I hope it helps with identifying it

Thanks
