Feel free to share your favourite banknotes here and why you like them so much! I'll start:

(Link: N#210217)

This one is my favourite. I love the colour and the design. Beautiful buildings that the city is quite well known for. Now it's your turn!

Not taking pictures cuz I JUST woke up like 10 minutes ago, but it’d probably be this guy

N#204513

I just love the colors on it, they pop so nicely next to most other notes in my collection. Beautiful note for sure

Edit: I already had photos in my camera roll, whoops

Woah, really cool! The dragons fit in so well! Definitely beautiful.

Thank you! Yeah it’s a lovely note to look at. I updated my post with images of my own.

Yours is sweet too, love the city scenes it has on it. I unfortunately don't have much Notgeld. Planning to add some to the collection for sure tho! Might snag that one

Notgeld are really interesting banknotes! There are hundreds of them from all over Germany and they are very colourful and creative. I have a few and some of them might e.g. tell the story of a city in a series of four banknotes!

Most of them are suprisingly cheap too, since the demand is very low.

One of my favourite World banknotes is this 1944 100 Francs from Luxembourg:

The first note I bought was a VF 10 Shilling from Ireland from a fellow collector & then a few UNC Euros (after a 2004 trip there) & the above was my 3rd note off eBay. The size is impressive & it reminded me of everything I enjoyed about my first trip to Europe (the old architecture/connections to the past).  I admire the classic design elements, no prefix & 2 sided colouring too.

Really nice! Quite simple, good colours and looks very 'classic'!

Mine is Mexico 50 Pesos.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

Thanks DanzigCoins. I also like big old affordable German notes like this 1908 P-33 One Hundred Marks:

or this P-46 20 Marks (1914):

Worldwide: that's a really nice 50 Pesos from Mexico (didn't it win the Banknote of the year award from IBNS?) Some of the new polymer designs are very eye catching.  I really like the first polymer $10 commemorative from Australia. It really is much more attractive to see in person then images from a computer.

(Actually, I could post images of favourite banknotes all day! LOL)

Oh, I have a few of those! I really like the colour and the decoration on them. The whole series of them, from 50 to 1000 marks is beautiful. The history is quite interesting too. Despite the inflation being quite high (sending a letter would cost over 100000 marks!), the country kept on printing them with a green seal, basically wasting paper that costs way more than the denomination of the banknote! And despite the fact that monarchy was abolished, they still kept the royal symbols on them! Kind of sad that they removed those complex designs after the currency reform. :(

Yeah you’re correct it did win IBNS banknote of the year in 2021, I also like the 100 Pesos that won in 2020 too.

My dad was in Australia 1990-91 didn’t encounter them in circulation only the paper version.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

My favourites tend to be from Russia and other places from behind the iron curtain.

N#226366

I especially like this note from the RSFSR, since it features many languages on the back (sometimes called a Babylonian note), working as a propaganda method creating inclusion of all. The shade of red is also very appealing to me.

N#210219

This one from Rostov-on-Don featuring a general who led the Don to victory in the Napoleonic wars stands out to me as well. It is from the Russian Civil War era, and was issued under the Empire’s command. This one in particular bears Tsar Nikolai’s Monogram as a watermark, adding to its beauty:

N#388977

Heading to a more modern approach, I absolutely adore this 2 Dollar note from the East Caribbean Islands. This one was found in Antigua fresh from the bank. I love the window in the note, it really takes a unique turn with the water and turtle. It also does a great job of commemorating “The Master Blaster” and incorporating some flora and fauna from the islands’ waters.

Astute observations @DanzigCoins

-Hyperinflation (& the fact that so many UNC were issued & virtually worth less the paper) is what kept these historic beauties so cheap (or affordable) for most collectors. The 1908 note I picked up for $10 USD in UNC but have since gifted it to a German buddy on his retirement. (Its shot up in price since).

Hyperinflation notes from Yugoslavia (& Hungary plus a host of other nations) are cheap too but their designs are drab & their production quality was cheap/shoddy -esp for Yugoslavia (there are some nice ones from Hungary but they've shot up in price). This is why I am so aghast at what has happened with the Zimbabwe 100 Trillion note (another mass produced ugly duckling IMO which shot up in popularity due more to social media hype/demand rather than scarcity).  Central Banks are steeped in traditions so its understandable that they kept some royal symbols. The era of WWI & WW2 notes is quite sad when you consider the # of lives lost + the atrocities that occurred due to famine/desperation. Hopefully, we've learn something from those terrible times.

-Very cool notes from Russia @Voided_Username01 I like the multiple languages & designs (Babylon theme). It reminds me of when I taught in Jamaica & heard the Rastas curse all “d'em eevo duppies from Babylon mon!”  Okay, we just took in that Bob Marley movie so I'm still reliving them days.  The civil war examples also have nice designs similar to the 1908 German 100 Marks note. I wanted to get myself a couple of their Siberian  (horseblankets) or early Russian Empire example years ago but each time the bidding got too hot & I backed off. Think I may give it a shot again.

@Worldwide collection there's a lot of affordable old Mexican notes from the 1960's & 70's with some great classic designs (& quite affordable), such as this common 5 Pesos for $8 - $10 on the Bay these days (I highly recommend these early designs as they're quite eye catching):

Yeah, kind of interesting how simplistic and less symbolic the designs got. From the beautiful eagle with an intense blue colour and artistic paintings, the notes eventually became very bland, sometimes just text and a small stamp. But I agree, they are definitely a lesson that we can learn a lot from.

The print quality of that photo is very nice.

The expression of that lady has been perfectly captured.

Here is my favourite banknote.

The more, the better! About 10 more hands of these too. Ok, 11….maybe 12….13?

It will be hard to acquire them because one they have a high face value and two they've been out of print since 2018.

I completely agree I’m just looking for the right AU-UNC lots I keep getting outbid on them.

My mother can remember them in circulation before the inflation kicked in from the later half of the 70s hence most of the later years are easily found in high grades.

Yeah, the only problem (or so I hear) is to use them big "fellas" otherwise they're just collecting dust.   On my 2018 honeymoon I couldn't wait to ditch my 200 Euro & was relieved to get rid of it at the airport. I really don't go for high denominations when I collect. In fact, I haven't even brought myself to purchase a 50.  And I actually like the Euro (even though most of the pre-Euro outshine them design-wise). Here's one of my favourites,  P-3m issued in Portugal (with the H printers code/printed by TDLR in UK):

Fortunately I received this design in change last year so I didn’t need to pay more than face value because of the many different issuers and printers code I only collect them by type.

It's also one of my favourites. I suppose the representation of female personifications (i.e. women who aren't real though probably based on live models) on many world banknotes, including Germany, Austria and Hungary in the late 19th and earlier 20th century, was meant to increase trust in the currency.

I also like currencies with vignettes showing buildings and/or modern technology such as this Chinese Bank of Communications 10 yuan.

₱o$₮ag€ $₮am₱$ a₹€ mo₹€ £€₲i₮ima₮€ a$ a ƒo₹m oƒ ¢u₹₹€nc¥ ₮ha₦ ₮h€ €₦₮i₹€ "¢oi₦" ₱₹odu¢₮io₦ oƒ ₦au₹u o₹ ₦iu€. ••• £€$ ₮im฿₹€$-₱o$₮€ $o₦₮ ₱£u$ £é₲i₮im€$ €₦ ₮a₦t qu'o฿j€₮$ mo₦é₮ai₹€$ qu€ £a ₱₹odu¢₮io₦ €₦₮iè₹€ d€ «mo₦₦ai€$» d€ ₦au₹u ou d€ ₦iu€.

@Camerinvs the Bank of Communications 10 Yuan is a classic!  Since it features both a ship & train, its no wonder its popular & they only get a bit dear when in top pop condition. Unlike this 1912 DOC $5.00 which are dear in any condition. Its one of the first rare (ish) note I laid eyes on as a kid & I think its one of the reasons I got into collecting paper (though I still don't own one! 😟

I also like the artistic designs of notes from France. I don't own many but the ones I do are really eye appealing, such as these 2. With the paper being so thin & customary to pin them, they're also tough to get in UNC condition:

Wow, that is quite an interesting strategy. Kind of sad that it didn't last too long. *cough* cough* Inflation. Also interesting how the national emblems were so big and it's hard to say what the focus is put on.

I like science and scientist themed banknotes.
