Could someone please help me identify this square coin and create a new catalogue page if it isn’t already listed? I’m new to numismatics and unsure about the exact details to include. The coin appears to feature Arabic or Persian inscriptions on both sides, possibly from a princely state or Sultanate period. Any guidance on attribution, mint, or era would be greatly appreciated.
A religious token, often decribed as a copy of an Akbar rupee but in reality it's nothing like. These have been produced since the early 20th century and still being made so the date on them means nothing
Could you please clarify what you mean and explain it in simpler terms? Also, could you elaborate on what you meant by “nothing like it”?
No rupee issued by Akbar resembles your token, added to that is the script on both yours and the one on the link are crude attempts at writing Islamic scripts that is full of errors or complete gobledegook 😆
Okay in that case should it be added as a new coin to the catalogue? What do you suggest?
I don't know, if Numista allow only one example of any coin/token then there is one like yours on that link already. No two of these will ever be identical as they are hand made like all of these are
Vic65 is a lot more skilled for indian coins than me, then I would recommand that you add your token as an example to the coin page, cause the writting is slightly different to current token page pictures.
@Vic65 I have added this as a new coin to the catalogue. Please crop the images and make any necessary amendments or add additional information as appropriate.

Normal approval time is 1 hour to 1 month, sometimes shorter and sometimes longer.
This why I don't post coins on Numista, but use zeno- the ‘Oriental coin database’ where when I post something it appears straight away and doesn't rely on a 3rd party who may not have expertise.
See the beautiful Mysore paisa I use on my posts here, I bought it over 60 years ago and in recent times I discovered it's has a unique unrecorded reverse variation, the only one known so obviously not catalogued anywhere. I posted it here and the referee refused it and informed me I have to give a KM number and a reference etc and generally nitpicked at it. Another coin I posted got the similar treatment so never again.
Thank you for your response. I did not use Vic’s image as it appeared slightly lighter compared to the image of the other side of the coin. Instead, I used the image you provided and rotated it accordingly. However, the image still appears smaller than the other side.
I’ll leave it as it is for now, as I’ve already spent a considerable amount of time on this page. I’ll leave it to the moderators to review and approve it.
